The Lost Apothecary was… an interesting read. I can’t decide whether I liked it or not.

It starts off introducing us to one of the main characters, Caroline. She recently discovered that her husband has been unfaithful to her. Personally, I hate when there is cheating in books. I just hate it.

Nonetheless, I persevered.

Caroline apparently loved history and people’s story. It felt a little forced… the way she wasn’t like other girls and loved “something different” per say.

I did really enjoy the other two characters, Nella and Eliza.

Nella ran an apothecary who dispensed poisons to women who needed to get rid of men. I liked reading about how she was conflicted about what she did. That seemed quite natural.

Eliza, is a 12 year old girl, who is sent to fetch a poison and begins to be interested in the world of poisons and tinctures.

Nella and Eliza were my favorite part of the story.

Caroline and her cheating, stupid, incompetent husband were not. Also, a lot of the story seemed quite far-fetched… I won’t go into too many details so as not to spoil it but… it truly didn’t seem plausible.

The Lost Apothecary

The Lost Apothecary

In the end, I give The Lost Apothecary a 2.5 out of 5, mostly due to the poisons and Nella and Eliza.
